Israel "justified" in targeting Hezbollah in Syria -- US

WASHINGTON, April 27 (KUNA) - In response to Israeli air strikes near Damascus airport on Thursday, the US State Department stressed that Israel is "justified in taking actions when they see a specific security threat" in Syria.
Israeli intelligence minister Yisrael Katz acknowledged the strikes while speaking to Israeli Army Radio, and local media in the country reported that Hezbollah has a weapons storage facility in the area. "Israel has its own security concerns and legitimate security concerns so in no way shape or form would I suggest that this is only complicating the situation," State Department Acting Spokesperson Mark Toner told reporters. "You know Hezbollah is a foreign terrorist organization whose forces have helped enable the Syrian regime to perpetuate its brutality against the Syrian people, and mostly to incite instability in the region," he added.
