GENEVA, April 25 (KUNA) -- More options are available concerning the methods in which the Iraqi compensations to Kuwait will be paid, said a Kuwaiti official late Monday.
Delivering a speech to the 82nd meeting for the United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC), Chairman of the Public Authority for Assessment of Compensation for Damages Resulting from Iraqi invasion of Kuwait (PAAC) Khaled Al-Mudaf indicated that Kuwait had reacted positively to the resolutions that the committee took during the last meeting in November of 2016.
The committee called on both Kuwait and Iraq to seek means to facilitate the compensation procedure, he said, adding that PAAC took a decision in 2014 to allow Iraqis to postpone compensations due to the dire economic and security situations in the fellow Arab country.
In between 2015 and 2016, the UNCC and Kuwait continued to take decisions to postpone the Iraqi compensations due several issues connected with the security situation in Iraq, said the Kuwaiti official.
He affirmed that his country was willing to continue cooperation with the UN to facilitate and ease the procedures for Iraq to pay its compensations to Kuwait on damages suffered during the invasion in 1990. (end) ta.gta
