Security operations kill 28 fighters in Afghanistan - MoD

ISLAMABAD, April 7 (KUNA) -- At least 28 militants including 15 fighters of so-called Islamic State (IS) were killed during operations in various provinces of Afghanistan in last 24 hours, said Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Friday.
According to a statement by MoD, the round-the-clock raids were carried out in Nangarhar, Paktika, Logar, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Herat, Faryab, Kunduz, Balkh, Sar-i-Pul and Helmand provinces of Afghanistan.
The statement, received in Islamabad, confirmed that 28 militants were killed and another seven wounded and four more captured alive during the operations.
The spokesman for governor of eastern Nangarhar province, Attaullah Khogyani told media that 15 fighters belonging to IS had been killed in a ground and air operation in Achin district. One machinegun and four AK-47s belonging to the insurgents were also destroyed in the operation, he added.
The operation came at a time when Afghan security forces have paced up their operations across Afghanistan to maintain law and order situation in the country. (end) sbk.bs
