Kuwait's Lateefa Buti wins 11th Sheikh Zayed Book Award

ABU DHABI, March 29 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti writer Lateefa Buti has been offered the Sheikh Zayed Book Award for "Children's Literature" for her book "Bila Qubba'a" (Hatless).
Buti's book has an imaginative and inspiring story line, adopting higher values of mutual coexistence and acceptance of differences, with both other humans and the surrounding natural setting, in a way that unleashes the children's thought process and ignites their creativity, the Award said in a statement relayed by the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
The Sheikh Zayed Book Award announced today the names of the winners of its eleventh session (2016 - 2017) in Literature, Contribution to the Development of Nations, Children's Literature, Translation, Literary and Art Criticism, Arabic Culture in Other Languages, and Publishing and Technology, according to the statement.
"The creative achievements of this session were characterized by their depiction of current pressing issues facing the world, including religious text, Arabic philosophy, technology and terrorism .The successful works won the award due to their impact on Arab culture and social life," the Secretary General of the Award Dr. Ali Bin Tamim as saying on the occasion.
The annual grand ceremony of the Award will be held on April 30 during the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, at the International Exhibition Center in Abu Dhabi.
"Khareef Al Bara'a" (The Autumn of Innocence) by the Lebanese author Abbas Beydoun, won the "Literature" Award, while the "Contribution to the Development of Nations" Award went to "Al Islam Wal Insan" (Islam and the Human Being) by Syrian Mohammad Chahrour.
The "Translation" Award was given to "Averroes: Le Philosophe Et La Loi' Ibn Rushd" translated from Arabic to French by Lebanese researcher and translator Ziad Bou Akel. "Fa'iliyyat Al-Khayal Al-Adabi" (The Validity of Literary Fiction) by the Iraqi scholar Said Al Ghanimi bagged the "Literary and Art Criticism" Award.
German David Wirmer won the "Arabic Culture in Other Languages" Award for his book "Vom Denken der Natur zur Natur des Denkens." The "Kalimat Group", Sharjah, UAE, won the "Publishing and Technology" Awar. (end) bs.msa
