Fed Reserve VP expresses concern over possibility of protectionist economy

WASHINGTON, March 28 (KUNA) -- Federal Reserve Vice President Stanley Fischer expressed concern Tuesday over the possibility of the Trump administration implementing a protectionist economic policy that would restrain trade between countries.
Fischer said his fears are "probably as high as they were before" and that the White House will at some point, "turn their attention to the global economy," he told CNBC in an interview.
He stressed that the since World War II "the way to grow was to integrate into the global economy. And that worked spectacularly for China. It worked for us. We've been able to buy many, many things that we wouldn't have been able to make had it all be up to us." Fischer stressed, "I'd be concerned if that basic model is overturned". (end) ak.hb
