Scottish MPs vote on bill for independence referendum from Britain

LONDON, March 28 (KUNA) -- Scotland's parliament Tuesday backed first minister Nicola Sturgeon's plans for a second referendum on independence from Britain.
A total of 69 MPs voted for the bill, while 59 ones were against it. The move comes one day before British Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to begin Brexit.
The vote is not abiding as the British government has the final say in this regard.
May reiterated two weeks ago her rejection to hold a second referendum to separate Scotland from Britain.
Sturgeon stressed earlier today that she would announce next week her plan to deal with the rejection of the central government in London to hold an independence referendum.
During the debate, Sturgeon said: "The people of Scotland should have the right to choose between Brexit, possibly a very hard Brexit, or becoming an independent country able to chart our own course and create a true partnership with equals across these islands." (end) kd.hm
