Man detained near White House with package

WASHINGTON, March 28 (KUNA) -- The US Secret Service detained a man Tuesday near the White House who approached a uniformed officer making "suspicious comments and had a package." A Secret Service spokesman said that officers "separated the individual and the package," and the suspect was then taken in Secret Service custody in avehicle. No further information were provided on identity of the detainee.
"Explosives teams are on the scene and a security perimeter has been established," the spokesman added.
East Wing tours are temporarily suspended while all other activity continues as normal, the spokesman indicated. (end) si.bs
