Childcare tops Kuwait top priorities, strategies - Official

KUWAIT, March 26 (KUNA) -- Kuwait is keen on making childcare one of its top priorities and strategies, a UN official affirmed Sunday.
Kuwaiti state and private social institutions work hard to implement the country's policy toward general childcare programs, Nadia Al-Wazzan, Secretary-General of Kuwait National Commission for UNESCO, said.
Al-Wazzan made her remarks in her opening speech at the fourth edition of childhood forum, billed as "child first - care and aspirations", which is held under the auspices of Education Ministry's Undersecretary Dr. Haitham Al-Athari.
She also mentioned that Kuwait pays special attention to the education of children with special needs through sponsoring educational scientific research that contribute in serving the special needs category, including Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Prize for Digital Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, and developing self-confidence and support programs to enable them to integrate in the society.
Children are worthy of investment, Al-Wazzan noted, stressing the importance of harnessing all educational training potentials for them to secure their protection, freedom, and development.
For her part, Dr. Suad Al-Suweidan, Director of the Regional Center for Childhood and Motherhood, said that the forum seeks to provide a clear vision on childcare and education, noting that integrated cooperation and consolidated efforts are essential for reaching comprehensive vision, inevitable visualizations, clear policies, and effective strategies that provide rich and intellectual environment for educating children and help them on building their abilities and gaining skills.
The forum mainly aims at integrating children in their early years and highlighting most important childhood and motherhood issues, Al-Suweidan noted, describing early childhood stage as the main core in shaping children's personality and behavior.
The three-day forum focuses on latest approaches, strategies, updates, theories, and philosophies on early childhood, including the Reggio Emilia and Montessori approaches, in addition to shedding light on modern technology and its negative impact on children's life and protection. (end) mrf.aas.ma
