Train derails, halts Manhattan train service

NEW YORK, March 24 (KUNA) -- A New Jersey train was sideswiped by an Amtrak Acela train today leaving behind several people injured, and halt train service in and out of Manhattan, New York.
New Jersey's statewide public transportation system said in a press release that a Montclair-Boonton line train was sideswiped by an Amtrak Acela train as several cars of the Amtrak train derailed near New York's Penn Station.
The Amtrak train bound for Washington, D.C. had a minor derailment as it was leaving New York's Penn Station. Several minor injuries were reported.
The train was inbound at slow speed to New York Penn Station with approximately 1,000 passengers on board when the incident occurred. Customers were able to exit the train on the platform.
As a result of this incident, New Jersey Transit rail service in and out of New York Penn Station was suspended. (end) mao.bs
