1961 -- "Alآ­Kuwait" monthly magazine for cultural affairs was published.
1962 -- "Sagr Quraish" play, performed by the Arab Theatre Troupe was displayed. Main actors are Saad AlFaraj, Khaled Alآ­Nafisi, Abdulآ­Hussein Abdulآ­Redha, Mariam Alآ­Saleh and Mariam Alآ­Ghadban.
1964 -- The Petroleum Industries Company established Kuwait Chemical Fertilizers company with the BP and Gulf companies as partners, with each having 20 percent of the company's stocks. In 1973, the Petroleum Industries Company bought the stakes of the two partners and on January 20, 1975, Kuwait Chemical Fertilizers was merged with it.
1975 -- The rate of the Kuwaiti dinar was pegged to a balanced basket of major currencies, in a move that reflects Kuwait's commercial and financial ties with the outside world.
1976 -- The National Assembly approved an agreement, signed between the Kuwaiti government and Kuwaiti Oil Company (KOC) on December 1, 1975, according to which the state becomes the owner of the company.
1978 -- His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Jaber Alآ­Ahmad Alآ­Sabah, issued decree 24 of 1978, appointing Sheikh Khalid Alآ­Ahmad Alآ­Jaber Alآ­Sabah as Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs.
1978 -- The law on military conscription came into effect.
1988 -- Under the auspices of the Amir, Sheikh Jaber Alآ­Ahmad Alآ­Sabah, the new headquarters of Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) was inaugurated. The foundation, chaired by the Amir, was established in December 1976.
1993 -- The international committee tasked with demarcating the Kuwaitiآ­Iraqi border finalizes a study on the drawing of the marine border line.
1996 -- Health Minister Dr. Abdulrahman Alآ­Muhailan inaugurated an international conference on cancer.
1996 -- The American Biographies Foundation selected Kuwait University Rector Dr. Fayza Alآ­Kharafi as the prominent personality of 1995.
2000 -- Theatrical artist and writer Hussein Alآ­Saleh passed away at the age of 69.
2008 -- Kuwaiti rider Turki Alآ­Mutairi, competing on his horse "Cruise," won King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Cup.
2009 -- The Amir Sheikh Sabah Alآ­Ahmad Alآ­Jaber Alآ­Sabah issued Decree No. 85, whereby dissolving the National Assembly in line with Provision 107 of the Kuwaiti Constitution. The Amir calls for new parliamentary elections.
2011 -- Kuwait Sports Club won the national 44th basketball tournament beating Kathma 85آ­57, being crowned as champion of the tournament for the eighth time. (end) gta
