KUWAIT, Feb 25 (KUNA) -- Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen were the focus of Kuwait's philanthropic endeavors throughout this week, with the GCC country living up to its UN-bestowed status as an 'International Humanitarian Center.' In Beirut, Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) has delivered 70 devices to Syrian refugees with special needs in Lebanon.
KRCS Chairman Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer said that the donation was made by Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), expressing gratitude towards the Chamber for contributing to this humanitarian mission.
Furthermore, Al-Sayer and Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri revised the society's philanthropic programs in the country, namely those intended to relieve Syrian refugees.
Dr. Al-Sayer, in a statement to KUNA post the meeting, said he examined with the premier the Kuwaiti humanitarian support for the refugees and aid for Lebanon to help it cope with hosting the large number of those who have fled their country for safety.
Al-Hariri, on his part, expressed gratitude during the meeting to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for supporting Lebanon. He also lauded the assistance provided by the Kuwaiti government and people for the Syrian refugees.
Meanwhile, in Iraq, Kuwait Relief Society launched three schools in the central Iraqi city of Ramadi, about 110 kilometers west of the capital Baghdad.
The schools have been opened to close out a project that entailed the construction of 22 schools in the provinces of Anbar, Diyala and Saladin, said United Iraqi Medical Society for Relief and Development.
Chairman of the Iraqi Medical Society Ahmad Al-Hayti applauded Kuwait for its support of Iraq's ailing education sector, as a string of schools funded by Kuwait's Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development have sprung up across the nation.
In Yemen, Kuwaiti humanitarian aid began trickling into the capital Sanaa as part of a campaign to ensure water security in the war-torn nation.
The campaign involves a project to boost water supply in some impoverished districts of the Yemeni capital, a statement issued by the campaign and obtained by KUNA noted.
Moreover, the project entails building a water system at a cost of USD 110,000.
Kuwait has doled out an incessant flow of aid to Yemen through a number of relief campaigns covering the food and healthcare needs of the Yemeni people.
Back in Kuwait, Head of the UNHCR Office-Kuwait Dr. Hanan Hamdan told KUNA in an interview that recent Kuwaiti donation of USD eight million to help 25,000 Syrian refugee families in Lebanon cemented the country's commitment to addressing such humanitarian crisis in the last four years.
Meanwhile, KRCS said it was eager to organize events and activities aiming to help needy families and orphans.
This came in Al-Barjas' statement to KUNA during a festival organized last Monday at the headquarters of KRCS on the occasion of celebrations of national days.
"During the festival some entertainment and artistic shows were presented to more than 500 orphan children, and some gifts were distributed to them, with the aim of making them happy," she added.
She lauded efforts of donors who contributed to alleviating suffering of needy families and orphans.
Last Thursday, KRCS Chairman Dr. Al-Sayer said that the Society firmly supports all efforts that run parallel to its foreign policy, which was based on benevolence and philanthropy.
Speaking to KUNA after meeting with Djibouti's Ambassador to Kuwait Mohammad Moumen, Al-Sayer said that KRCS is willing and ready to work with humanitarian organizations in the Northeastern African nation.
Meanwhile, the Djiboutian envoy told KUNA that his country highly appreciates Kuwait's humanitarian efforts that have mitigated the affliction of the human race.
He also applauded KRCS for its support of impoverished nations across the African continent, noting that an aid package earmarked for Djibouti is in the works. (end) kt.hb
