1950 -- Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah took over power as the 11th ruler of Kuwait after the demise of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber. A parade of Kuwait Army and British military units organized at Safat Square marking the occasion.

1957 -- Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) published the first issue of its "Oil Report" magazine, which continued to be published under the name "The Kuwaiti".

1959 -- First series of memorial stamps were issued on the occasion of the lapse of a decade since Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem became as ruler of the country.

1968 -- Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued a decree bringing the Theater and Arts Institute under the supervision of the Ministry of Guidance and News.

1976 -- The Central Bank of Kuwait issued the first commemorative coin on the occasion of Kuwait's 15th National Day, which the pictures of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah engraved on one side and that of Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah on the other.

1978 -- The national anthem, written by poet Ahmad Al-Adwani, was broadcasted for the first time.
1980 -- Kuwait News Agency began broadcast in English.

1987 -- Inauguration of Al-Khairan Resort at a cost of KD 20 million.

2001 -- Kuwait celebrated the 40th National Day and the 10th Liberation Day anniversaries, with world leaders attending including former US President George H.W. Bush and former British Premier Margaret Thatcher.

2003 -- The Arabian Gulf University, in Bahrain, inaugurated Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah's scholarship for microbiology and clinical immunity.

2009 -- Fire occurred at a women-wedding hall in Jahra area, killing one person and injuring 128 others.

2010 -- Kuwaiti athlete Mohammad Al-Azmi won the gold medal at the 800 meters race held during the Asian in-door athletics competition in Tehran. (end) gta
