Japan, Canada PMs agree to address N. Korea, TPP

TOKYO, Feb 22 (KUNA) -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau shared the view on Wednesday North Korea's recent ballistic missile launch cannot be tolerated by any means and the two countries should respond jointly and firmly to it.
During their telephone conversation, Abe and Trudeau also agreed to work together to ensure the effectiveness of UN Security Council resolutions on North Korea, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement. Pyongyang conducted its latest ballistic missile test on February 12.
The two leaders also exchanged views on the US withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade agreement, pledging to closely communicate with other relevant countries for the 12-nation pact, according to the ministry. The multilateral free trade agreement aims to further liberalize the economies of 12 Pacific-rim countries, including Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.
But last month, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order pulling the US out of the accord under his "America First" policy.
Abe and Trudeau, both met Trump earlier this month, also touched on the outcomes of their meetings with the US leader. (end) mk.gta
