US plans to hire 10,000 agents to deport undocumented immigrants

WASHINGTON, Feb 21 (KUNA) -- The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced plans on Tuesday to hire 10,000 additional Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to help deport undocumented immigrants if they are convicted of a criminal offense.
The plans outline that personnel can target "removable aliens" based upon "the judgment of an immigration officer, otherwise pose a risk to public safety or national security," according to a memo from DHS.
Additionally, offenses can include those who have "engaged in fraud or willful misrepresentation in connection with any official matter," it says.
This provision would target those who have created a fake social security number in order to obtain work.
President Donald Trump campaigned on a platform of creating a deportation force that, according to reports, have already begun targeting undocumented people across major US cities. (end) ak.gb
