Omani parliament speaker: Israeli practices threaten int'l security, peace

TEHRAN, Feb 21 (KUNA) -- Omani Parliament Speaker Khaled bin Hilal Al Mawali has warned that Israeli practices in the occupied Palestinian territories pose a threat to international peace and security.
Speaking at the 6th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada, or uprising, Al Mawali said "we should back the goals of establishing an independent state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital and discard differences amongst Muslims." He added that the Palestinian cause is going through "difficult conditions" which increase Palestinians' suffering.
"At a time when the Israeli occupation forces commit practices against Palestinians and seek to waste their rights, Palestinian people defend their land, but are accused of terror and this is a mistake because they defend their homeland," he said.
He called for promoting cooperation amongst Muslim nations to prevent Israel from achieving its goals through building new settlements and continuing violations against Palestinians.
He stressed the necessity of doubling common efforts so as to alleviate suffering of Palestinians and maintain Al-Aqsa Mosque, urging Palestinian people to get unified.
A Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation including MPs Auda Al Ruwaie and Khalil Abul is taking part in the conference. (end) fz.hm
