Bomb kills Turkish soldier in northern Syria

ANKARA, Feb 21 (KUNA) -- The Turkish Army announced on Tuesday that a soldier was killed and two others were injured due to a bomb explosion in southern Syria.
A statement by the Turkish Chief of Staff said that the Army forces were carrying out a task within "Euphrates Shield" operation when the bomb exploded. The injured were send directly to the hospital to receive the care needed.
In cooperation with the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and international forces, the Turkish army launched on August 24 of 2016, a military operation codenamed the "Euphrates Shield" in northern Syria, which aims at cleansing the whole border area from terrorist organizations, especially IS.
Meanwhile, the Turkish fighters destroyed 10 hideouts and caves for the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in northern Iraq and in areas southeast of Turkey.
In another statement by the Turkish Chief of Staff said, the Turkish air force bombarded a number of locations for PKK in Zab area northern Iraq and in the Hakkari province southeastern of Turkey.
The Turkish Chief of Staff announced earlier on Monday that 34 PKK militants were killed due to two raids conducted by the Turkish air force on Zab area. (end) rs.mys
