HATAY, Turkey, Feb 21 (KUNA) -- Wars and armed conflicts have led, throughout the years, to the displacement of millions of people around the globe and this fact truthfully applies to the plight of the Syrian people.
As if the crisis was not enough, a number of Syrian refugees in Reyhanli town, southern Turkey, have been struggling with another dilemma, which literally disabled their movement.
Burhan Mohammad Al-Qanattri, 22, is one of many Syrian refugees struggling to live in a land, which is not theirs, and a disability, which almost hinders their movement.
Recounting his story to KUNA, Al-Qanattri revealed that not only he had to cope with polio; two other members of his family also had the same dysfunction.
"Since childhood and onto early teen, we have been told by physicians that the chances of recovery are becoming slimmer," Al-Qanattri said, adding that the current status quo in Syria made matters even worse due to the lack of adequate medical attention.
He went on saying that life is very difficult as their father was deceased and chances for employment and proper education were almost nonexistence.
The Syrian refugee said that he had started his own family and currently had to find means to provide for his own on top of his responsibility towards his disabled siblings.
Other than the enormous financial difficulties, the Syrian refugee said that there was a glimmer of hope on the horizon.
A number of Kuwaiti charities have been providing refugees with medical care and financial assistance, said Al-Qanattri who thanked the Kuwaiti leadership and people for their helping hand.
Recently, a medical team from the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) provided medical assistance and conduct operations at the Emel Hospital in Reyhanli, a Turkish border town with a population of 90,000 people. The number of Syrian refugees in the area amounted to around 130,000. (end) rs.gta
