IRBIL, Feb 10 (KUNA) -- Having been clouded with "terrorist" ideologies, Nineveh Governorate and its capital, Mosul, has taken upon its shoulders to bring normalcy to life that was destroyed by the so-called Islamic State (IS) in the past two years.
Psychological and ideological rehabilitation that teach principles of peaceful co-existence and acceptance of the other is a top priority for the Nineveh Governorate to write off all effects of IS' dogmas.
In 2014, a number of the cities in the governorate were under the control of IS, it employed latest technologies and media outlets to recruit more young people to join its ranks.
However, after it was liberated in 2016, civil societies have launched many awareness campaigns in schools and colleges to teach young generations the importance of tolerance and acceptance of the other and wipe out all the remnants of IS' extreme ideologies, head of Nineveh media networks and head of a voluntary committee Muhand Al-Awamri told KUNA.
Reforming the educational system in this governorate needs great time and effort because IS done a greater damage to the mind of the people, he added.
Proper education and enforcing positive behaviors are the initial steps toward spreading love and peace, leader of youth group Dina Ammar said. Nineveh civil societies will continue to hold workshops addressed to families and young adults to raise awareness respect and social responsibilities in order to build better future. Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced eastern Mosul has been "fully liberated" from IS after more than 100 days of military operations to retake the city that kicked off in 2016.
