Kuwaiti lawyers conclude visit to Netherlands
BRUSSELS, Feb 4 (KUNA) -- A 35-member delegation from Kuwait Bar Association has concluded a five-day visit to Netherlands.
During the visit, the delegation toured several Hague-based international courts and met several senior judiciary and legal personalities to discuss boosting cooperation and to get acquainted with work mechanisms and expertise in these courts.
Among the institutions visited by the delegation was the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
ICJ President Ronny Abraham has welcomed the Kuwaiti delegation and briefed them about the ICJ charter and work mechanisms, Counslor to the Kuwaiti Embassy in The Hague and President of the Administrative and Financial Committee at the International Court of Arbitration Tareq Al-Shumaimri told KUNA Saturday.
Abraham has also talked with delegation about his career and expertise in judicial domain, Al-Shumaimri noted.
He added that the delegation has visited the International Court Arbitration and the International Criminal Court where it attended a hearing about examination of a territorial dispute between Somalia and Kenya, and the trial of a suspect accused of carrying out a genocide in an African country.
The delegation visited the Kuwaiti Embassy in The Hague where they were welcomed by the Ambassador Shamlan Al-Roumi.
The aim of the visit is to gain international experience in trials and mechanism of action of the lawyers in those courts.
The visit to the Netherlands by the Kuwaiti lawyers is the second of its kind since 2015. (end) nk.ibi
