60 Taliban militants, 11 security men killed in Afghan offensive

ISLAMABAD, Jan 26 (KUNA) -- At least 11 security personnel and 60 Taliban miltants have been killed in an ongoing security operation by Afghan forces in Afghanistan's central Uruzgan province, said an official on Thursday.
In a press conference, acting police chief Brig. Gen. Rahmatullah Sediqi said that an offensive is ongoing against miltants across Tirinkot, the capital of Uruzgan. He noted that 60 insurgents have been killed and 80 others wounded, including some local commanders, as he confirmed that seven Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and four policemen have been killed. Moreover, three ANA personnel and two policemen were wounded, he said, adding that civilians supported the security forces during the offensive, which he hailed as a success.
The statement comes at a time when Afghan security forces have paced up their offensives against militants across Afghanistan to maintain law and order in the country. (end) sbk.nam
