History of Kuwaiti-Iranian official visits since 1992

KUWAIT, Jan 25 (KUNA) -- Envoy of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah met Wednesday with Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in the Iranian capital.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed recent regional and international developments, in addition to bilateral relations.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled arrived in the Iranian capital earlier today in an official visit to deliver a letter to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani from His Highness the Amir.
Kuwaiti and Iranian senior officials have been exchanging several visits since Kuwait's liberation in 1991.
On April 18, 1992, former Iranian foreign minister Ali Akbar Velayati, accompanied by a high-level delegation, visited Kuwait and met with His Highness the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the late father Amir Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah A-Salem Al-Sabah, and former Deputy Premier, Foreign Minister the late Sheikh Salem Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
On November 11, 1997, former Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazi visited Kuwait and met with the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, late father Amir Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who held posts of First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister at that time.
On January 18, 2002, former foreign minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah visited Iran and met with Iranian Ex-President Mohammad Khatami, former Speaker Mehdi Karroubi, and former foreign minister Kamal Kharazi.
On January 11, 2003, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who was First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister at that time, visited Iran. Many observers viewed this visit as the most significant in the two countries relations.
On October 25, 2004, former Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazi visited Kuwait and held talks with Kuwaiti officials on ways to enhance the Kuwaiti-Iranian ties.
On August 28, 2005, former foreign minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah delivered a letter from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who was the Prime Minister at that time, to Iranian Ex-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad regarding the two countries' bilateral ties.
On May 20, 2006, former Iranian foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki visited Kuwait and held talks with senior Kuwaiti officials regarding ways to boost bilateral ties between the two countries.
On February 13, 2007, former deputy premier, foreign minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah visited Iran and met with Ex-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to discuss a number of mutual issues, including continental shelf, economic cooperation program between the two countries, region security, and Iranian nuclear program.
On January 15, 2008, former deputy prime minister, foreign minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah visited Iran to head Kuwait's delegation at the meetings of Iranian-Kuwaiti joint committee.
On July 26, 2015, Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif visited Kuwait to discuss latest regional updates and ways to boost political and economic relations between the two countries. (end) sal.ma
