Kuwaiti-funded school opens in North Iraq

IRBIL, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- A Kuwaiti-funded school for war-relocated Iraqis was opened here on Thursday, as part of the relief campaign, "Kuwait on your side." The school was inaugurated in Birzin, Irbil, during a ceremony attended by the State of Kuwait General Consul, Dr. Omar Al-Kandari, Irbil Governor and a number of Arab and foreign diplomats.
Dr. Al-Kandari said in a statement to KUNA the school, named "Al-Kuwait Al-Oula," was start of constructing a number of other Kuwait-financed schools in the region, upon guidelines of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Irbil Governor Nawzad Hadi in remarks to KUNA expressed gratitude to the State of Kuwait for its generous humanitarian contributions and help for the needy and the displaced Iraqis living in the Kurdish regions of northern Iraq.
The school, made up of caravans, has an accommodation capacity for 480 students. (end) sbr.rk
