KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait on Thursday urged the international community to intervene and halt atrocities targeting the Muslim Rohingya community in in Myanmar.

The State of Kuwait Deputy Foreign Minister, Khaled Al-Jarallah, in a statement to KUNA following an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, dedicated for discussing tragic conditions suffered by the Muslim community in Myanmar, said not only the OIC should shoulder the responsibility regarding plight of the Royhingyas, but also the international community.
He added that participants in the meeting underscored in their statements necessity of relieving the innocent Rohingyas, who have been subjected "to brutal practices as part of a campaign of ethnic cleansing and killings as well as other acts of unprecedented ugly nature."

Final communique of the special meeting, Al-Jarallah added, underscored difficult conditions suffered by the Rohingya community in Myanmar and called on the international community to act hastily to deal with this problem.
The conferees have reached an explicit decision; condemning repression of the Muslim community, tasking a special panel to visit the towns and areas where the Muslims live and contact authorities of Myanmar to try persuade the leadership in that country to adopt a different approach of treating the Muslim minority.
