Afghan police kill 6 IS militants

ISLAMABAD, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- At least six fighters belonging to so-called Islamic State (IS) were killed and four others wounded during an overnight clash with the security forces in Nangarhar province, east Afghanistan.
Provincial police spokesman, Lt.-Col. Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told media on Wednesday that the fighters stormed police posts in Haska Mina district. In the ensuing clash, six IS attackers were killed and four others wounded in police retaliatory fire. Security personnel suffered no casualties in the clash, he said. The police forces seized 32 kilograms of opium from a car and arrested a person in Samarkhel area of Behsud district, the spokesman said, adding that a civilian taken hostage by Taliban rebels was also rescued by police in Pachiragam district.
The clashes came at a time when Afghan security forces have paced up their operations across Afghanistan to maintain law and order situation in the country. (end) sbk.gb
