Gulf popular heritage festival kicks off

KUWAIT, Jan 15 (KUNA) -- A Gulf popular heritage festival opened on Sunday in Sabah Al-Ahmad village, drawing a large turnout in an event sponsored by His Highness the Amir.
The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah, Amiri Diwan Advisor and the village's supervisor Mohammad Daifallah Sharar, Deputy village supervisor Sheikh Sabah Fahad Al-Nasser Al-Sabah and the director of the village Saif Al-Shallahi, along with a number of government officials.
In a statement to the press, Sheikh Ali Al-Jarrah said that the festival will allow the people of Kuwait and the Gulf region the chance to mingle amid a delightful ambiance.
Moreover, he spoke of the greenery galore found in the village, in addition to numerous outstanding services it provides, adding that the festival coincides with the 11th anniversary of the passing of late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Meanwhile, Director General of the Public Authority for Youth (PAY) Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi noted that PAY is participating in the festival, which aims to instill in youth values of national unity and patriotism.
Al-Mutairi added that he was hopeful that Kuwaiti youth would be able to showcase a favorable image of Kuwaiti culture.
The festival will include a plethora of contests and activities designed to illustrate Kuwait's profound maritime heritage. (end) fsa.nam
