CAIRO, Jan 10 (KUNA) -- The Arab League's Secretary General's representative in Libya Salah-el-Din Al-Jamali has suggested forming an Arab fund to provide humanitarian and relief aid to the North African nation.
Al-Jamali pitched the idea on Tuesday during the opening session of an Arab League meeting on the level permanent envoys, called to examine the latest developments in the Libyan conflict, with participation of a Kuwaiti delegation.
Moreover, the Arab League official noted that Arab nations and businessmen alike are capable of offering pecuniary support to the Libyan people, many of whom "are mired in unemployment." On the United Nations' (UN) efforts to put an end to the conflict, he said that the UN is "highly concerned" about deteriorating conditions in the war-torn nation. He also added that Libyans look forward to a more active Arab role, citing efforts by some Arab nations to encourage dialogue between Libya's "warring parties." Similarly, Deputy Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmad bin Hilli noted that the mission in Libya is "difficult but not impossible." Kuwait's delegation to the meeting was headed by its permanent envoy to the Arab League Ambassador Ahmad Al-Bakr. (end) mfm.nam
