KUWAIT, Dec 21 (KUNA) -- Chiefs of GCC Red Crescent societies recommended Wednesday that there should be united Gulf positions on the humanitarian tragedy in the Syrian city of Aleppo and on delivery of relief aid to affected people.
They made the recommendation in a final communique adopted following their emergency meeting held in Kuwait today.
They also called for dispatching a joint field team of GCC Red Crescent volunteers to Aleppo in order to deliver humanitarian aid to displaced persons and to launch joint humanitarian projects there.
They underscored the significance of providing relief aid to Syrian displaced persons amid the aggravating humanitarian tragedy in Syria in general, according to the statement.
The conferees urged the broadening of the scope of joint cooperation among GCC charities over humanitarian activities, emphasizing that the international community should get united to open safe aid passages in violence-hit cities in Syria.
Humanitarian aid should be primarily given to children, women, old people and people with special needs, the conferees were quoted by the statement.
The urgent meeting, presided over by the GCC General Secretariat, kick-started in Kuwait earlier on Wednesday. The one-day gathering featured discussions of plans to initiate a humanitarian project that aims to distribute direly needed aid to displaced Syrians. (Pickup previous) akw.msa.mt
