Unknown gunmen kill 5 women workers in S. Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, Nov 17 (KUNA) -- At least five women workers and a driver were killed in an armed attack by unknown gunmen in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province on Saturday, said officials.
Spokesman for provincial governor, Samim Kheplwak told media that the women workers were in a van driving to the airport when at least three gunmen on motorcycles opened fire at them in Khwaja Manda locality of the 4th police district.
"All the women and their driver aboard the van were killed. The attackers fled the area and we have launched an investigation," he said.
Kandahar International Airport Director Ahmadullah Faizi confirming the death said that the women were employees of a private company who would provide luggage and body search services for female passengers. "The women were concerned about their security after receiving death threats from people who disapproved of their career," the official added.
Police spokesman Zia Durrani said that investigations into the incident had been launched. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the incident. (end) sbk.mt
