BRUSSELS, Dec 16 (KUNA) -- The Ambassador Jasem Al-Budaiwi presented yesterday his credentials to the Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg, becoming the first Kuwaiti Ambassador extraordinary to the organization.
Al-Budaiwi - who is also Kuwait's Ambassador to the EU, Belgium and Luxembourg - said in a statement to KUNA that he conveyed the greetings of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to Stoltenberg.
He said Stoltenberg expressed his hope to visit Kuwait together with the North Atlantic Council to meet with the political leadership and senior officials and to participate in the launch of NATO's Regional Centre for the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI).
Al-Budaiwi said that the NATO Secretary praised the level of relations between Kuwait and NATO, and lauded the great efforts and multiple facilities provided by the State of Kuwait to host the Centre.
Al-Budaiwi paid tribute to the close relations between Kuwait and NATO, since the accession of the State of Kuwait to ICI, which was launched in 2004.
Kuwait is the first country to have joined the initiative, followed by the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar, and Bahrain.
He added that this initiative aimed to contribute to the consolidation of security and stability at the global and regional levels, in addition to strengthening the capabilities and potential of countries in the ICIC at all practical, administrative, and logistics levels, including the training of human civil and military cadres in these countries.
