VIENNA, Dec 10 (KUNA) -- The upcoming meeting for OPEC countries and non-member states, scheduled later today, is crucial to the stability of world economy, said a Kuwaiti diplomat Saturday.
Speaking to KUNA, Kuwait's Ambassador to Austria and permanent delegate to the UN and International Organizations' headquarters in Vienna Sadeq Marafi said the meeting, held on the ministerial level, will hopefully "set the record straight" on OPEC's intentions to lower production by the beginning of 2017.
OPEC's meeting on November 30th managed to unify the organization towards a common goal, said Marafi who revealed that a committee, headed by Kuwait, was established to look into measures to implement the Vienna agreement as soon as possible.
On the meeting today, Marafi said that this was the first meeting of its kind since 2002, between OPEC countries and non-members.
In order for OPEC to achieve the 1.2 million barrel per day decrease and non-members by 600,000, the meeting today must focus on measures to realize things on the ground, said the Kuwaiti diplomat. (end) amg.gta
