CAIRO, Dec 8 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmad Abul-Gheit on Thursday called for collective Arab action to cope with "environmental challenges" for such an approach constitutes basis of modern-time socio-economic development.
Abul-Gheit, addressing the 28th meeting of Arab ministers and officials charged with environmental affairs, called for mapping out a joint Arab strategy to deal with these challenges and setting up national-level "mechanisms" to limit catastrophes.
His call came amid growing international concern for the Earth deteriorating climatic conditions and atmosphere, particularly marked with extreme hot summers.
The Arab League chief underscored necessity of holding the third Arab forum for limiting catastrophes, as a prelude to the 2017 United Nations Climate Change Conference.
He expressed hope the Arab states would boost cooperation to achieve collective sustainable development.
Kuwait was represented at the meeting by Sheikh Abdullah Ahmad Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, Chairman of the Environment Public Authority (EPA). (end)
