Stoltenberg: Centre in Kuwait important platform to boost regional cooperation

BRUSSELS, Dec 7 (KUNA) -- NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Wednesday that he will inaugurate a regional center called NATO-Istanbul Cooperation Initiative center in Kuwait early next year.
"That center will be a platform for different kinds of partnership activities," he told a news conference after the end of a two-day meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
He noted that NATO and countries in the Gulf region can meet and have different kind of activities to build partnerships.
"I am looking forward to open the Centre in Kuwait and it is going to take our work in the region an important step forward. It is a big building I have seen the construction site," he added.
On Iraq, he said NATO will send 20 trainers in January for the training of security personnel inside the country. Currently, NATO is training Iraqi military officers in Jordan. (end) nk.rk
