GCC, UK forge strategic partnership

MANAMA, Dec 7 (KUNA) -- A meeting between Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) leaders and British Prime Minister Theresa May has yielded plans to form a strategic partnership between both sides that aims to enhance ties on all fronts.
The meeting, which occurred on the sidelines of the GCC Summit, has produced a plan for cooperation that encompasses political, commercial, defense and security realms, a statement issued after the meeting noted.
Moreover, the statement added that history has illustrated that the UK and the GCC are ready to do everything in their power to protect their collective interests, noting that both sides strive to keep political stability in the GCC intact.
On ties between both sides, the statement pointed out that the GCC and the UK are firmly committed to safeguarding their security interests, through a solid partnership designed to repel any forms of threats.
Meanwhile, the statement underscored a mutual consensus on the need to restore stability and peace in the region, particularly, to ensure remedies for the conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya.
On solutions to these conflicts, the statement highlighted that "military means are not the answer, rather, political efforts and respect of sovereignty are the safest methods to bring an end to these conflicts." (end) kna.nam
