KUWAIT, Dec 6 (KUNA) -- Chairwoman of Cabinet's Women Affairs Committee Sheikha Latifa Al-Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah affirmed Tuesday Kuwait's leading role on regional and international levels in supporting women's rights.
Sheikha Latifa made her remarks to KUNA following the visit made by a team of experts from the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) to the Women Affairs Committee earlier, pointing out Kuwait's anti-discrimination efforts, in addition to keenness on empowering women's place and role in society.
Kuwait had laid the foundations of eliminating discrimination against women, she said, adding that the Kuwaiti Constitution has secured females with equal rights to males, and considered women as a genuine factor in society and an effective partner in development, prosperity, and construction.
The Kuwaiti society grant women with more privileges and gains than men in various fields, Sheikha Latifa said, noting that Kuwait's successive governments have always provided women with care and support, including education inside and outside Kuwait.
The Kuwaiti woman has sought employment since the country's earlier development stages, attaining several major successes that contributed in boosting her status and empowered her role in the society, she said, pointing out the high and leading posts that Kuwaiti women had held to become strong partner in the decision making process.
