OIC calls to support Somalia in facing drought

JEDDAH, Dec 4 (KUNA) -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) urged member-countries and partners in humanitarian action to support Somalia in facing drought, and intervene quickly to alleviate the suffering of those affected by aridity before the humanitarian situation gets worse.
OIC's developmental office in Somalia is fully ready to cooperate with member-countries in delivering humanitarian aid to areas affected by drought, the organization said in a statement Sunday.
Drought and aridity severely hit wide areas in Somalia due to a rainout for over five consecutive seasons, which led to a new humanitarian disaster in most of Somalia's regions, particularly central and northern the African country.
Currently, the number of affected persons due to the ongoing climatic crises amounts to around 760,000 in all around Somalia's regions, noted the statement. (end) nh.ma
