Clashes kill 5 soldiers, 8 rebels in W. Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, Nov 3 (KUNA) -- At least five Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and eight Taliban rebels were killed during a clash in Afghanistan's western Farah province, said official on Saturday.
Commander of 207th Zafar Military Corps Brig. Gen. Mir Asadullah Kohistani told media that the "militants" attacked ANA check-posts in the provincial capital and the fight continued for several hours. He confirmed that five ANA soldiers and at least eight Taliban militants were killed in the clash.
Moreover, four military personnel and 13 fighters were wounded in the clashes that erupted in the Shamalgah locality of the city.
According to local media, Taliban claimed capturing a military check-post and inflicting causalities on 31 Afghan soldiers with at least four ANA tanks destroyed in the battle.
The clashes came at a time when Taliban rebels have paced up their attacks across Afghanistan after rejecting peace dialogue offer by Afghan government. (end) sbk.mt
