Trump backers challenge votes recounting in three states

WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 (KUNA) -- Supporters of President-elect Donald Trump have filed legal challenges in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan in an effort to stop the presidential election recount efforts in those states.
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, who like Trump is a Republican, said the recount, initiated by Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein, puts Michigan voters at risk of "paying millions and potentially losing their voice in the Electoral College in the process." A lawsuit against the Wisconsin Elections Commission filed in Federal District Court by the Great America PAC, the Stop Hillary PAC and Ronald R. Johnson, a Wisconsin resident, said the Wisconsin recount, which began on Thursday, could "unjustifiably cast doubt" on Trump's victory in that state.
Mark Brewer, a lawyer for Stein, said Trump's campaign was making a "desperate attempt" to avoid a recount.
Lawrence Tabas, general counsel of the Republican Party of Pennsylvania, said on Friday that Stein's lawyers had fallen short of demonstrating that there was fraud or illegal action in the Nov. 8 election.
Stein said she is seeking the recounts because "in an election already tainted by suspicion, previously expressed by Donald Trump himself, verifying the vote is a common-sense procedure that would put all concerns around voter disenfranchisement to rest." Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania are all states that have recently voted Democratic in presidential elections and where Trump won by relatively narrow margins. (end) rm.ibi
