US recent sanctions extension violates JCPOA - Khamenei

TEHRAN, Nov 27 (KUNA) -- Iran's Supreme Leader Seyyed Ali Khamenei said recent sanctions' extension against his country by US Congress a violation to Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), official media reported Sunday.
"The US has undertaken not to impose fresh sanctions in the context of the nuclear deal struck on July 14, 2015. But, the US Congress reneged on commitments to the JCPOA by extension of the expired D'Amato sanctions," Khamenei said while meeting with Iranian navy commanders and staff, according to Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
"Extension of the expired D'Amato sanctions makes no difference with imposing fresh sanctions," he said, adding that the US officials' conduct runs counter to the nuclear deal which prohibited fresh sanctions.
The nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1 group paved way for easing of international sanctions against Tehran in return of the downgrading of the Islamic Republic's nuclear program. (end) fz.ma
