CAIRO, Nov 21 (KUNA) -- The Arab League on Monday called for joining media efforts in the face of terrorism, and the Western distortion campaigns targeting Arabs and Muslims.
The League's Assistant Secretary General, and head of Media and Communication Sector Haifa Abu Ghazala made the call in her address to the opening of the 88th session of the Permanent Committee for Arab Media.
She emphasized the major role and responsibility of the Arab media to highlight the Arab causes, topped with Israel's "terrorism" against the Palestinian people.
The League's top media official stressed the significant role of the Arab media to focus on the challenges facing the Arab World, on the national, national, regional and international levels.
She underlined the importance of supporting the Palestinian cause and condemning the Israeli violations against the Palestinian people, especially Israel's latest decision to ban the use of loudspeakers for "Azaan" (Muslim call for prayer.) The agenda of the 88th session of the Permanent Committee comprises several topics relate to the role of the media for countering terrorism, and the media strategy for achieving sustainable development that was approved by the last session of the Arab Minsters of Information Council, Abu Ghazala said.
For his part, head of the permanent committee, Undersecretary of the Saudi Ministry of Culture and Information for External Information Dr. Abdulmohsen bin Farouk Elias underscored the momentousness of the topics on the agenda of the meeting.
These are topped with the role of the media for combating the phenomenon of terrorism, that has come to threaten the security and stability of the entire world, he told the session.
He also called in his address for contributing to renewing the media content on countering terrorism.
Kuwait's delegation to the Cairo meeting is led by head of the Arab countries media at the Ministry of Information Lulwa Abdullah Al-Salem.
Recommendations of the permanent committee are to be submitted to the 6th session of the Executive Bureau of the Arab Ministers of Information Council due in Cairo on Wednesday. (end) mfm.rg.msa
