DOHA, Nov 14 (KUNA) -- The International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach said on Monday that Qatar has the capabilities to host the Olympic Games in the future.
Bach stated to the press, after visiting Aspire Academy, that it is up to Qatar weather to apply for the race in hosting the Olympics or not.
He added, "in the IOC we have reached the phase of preparing the decision on who will host the 2024 Olympics and I think that one day Qatar will be a nominee for hosting that big event." Meanwhile, the IOC president was happy to visit to Aspire Academy, that came on the sidelines of the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) meetings that will be held on Tuesday, noting that he has visited Qatar a couple of years ago and was given the opportunity to observe the progress of the academy at many levels.
In remarks on the on-going cooperation between IOC and Qatar Olympic Committee, he said "we respect the work of the Qatari Olympic Committee, and everyone can see how athletes from all over the world are welcomed here through various Olympic training programs, and benefiting from the available capabilities in Aspire." He added that the IOC is very firm when fighting use of performance-enhancing drugs, pointing out that the blood samples for the athletes are kept for 10 years, so any cheater will think twice before using drugs in any competition because sooner or later he or she will be caught and will be stripped from his or her title and medal.
Doha will witness tomorrow on Tuesday the announcement of best athletes who participated in Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Prizes will go for the best male and female athletes, male and female national teams, National Olympic Committee, in addition of the most inspiring contributor in the Olympic movements. (end) nnd.mys
