FBI to reopen Clinton probe after new emails found

WASHINGTON, Oct 28 (KUNA) -- The FBI said on Friday it would reopen the investigation into former US state secretary Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server after new related emails were unearthed.
"The FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation," Director James Comey said in a letter to Congress.
Comey said that the emails, uncovered yesterday, will "allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation." However, he said that the FBI "cannot yet assess whether or not this material may be significant," and that he cannot predict how long the renewed investigation could take.
In September, Comey had stated that the investigation was closed and that not Clinton nor her aides would face criminal charges.
But Comey did call the actions of Clinton, who is currently running for US president, "extremely careless" at the time.
With only 11 days left until the November 8 elections, the issue could cause serious damage to Clinton's bid for presidency.
At a rally in Manchester, New Hampshire, her Republican rival Donald Trump accused Clinton of "corruption (which) is on a scale we have never seen before.
"We must not let her take her criminal scheme into the Oval Office," he said.
He also called the FBI's previous decision to close the investigation a "horrible mistake," reigniting his claim that the US elections "might not be as rigged as I thought." Meanwhile, when asked about the new investigation and the contents of the emails, the Clinton campaign told US media that it has "no idea." (end) sd.bs
