French voters lose confidence in Hollande's unemployment goals

PARIS, Oct 28 (KUNA) -- The vast majority of French voters have lost confidence in President Francois Hollande's ability to turn around high unemployment and reverse a trend that has endured and worsened since he took office in 2012, a poll published Friday indicated.
Despite a good performance in September, when the jobless level declined by 1.9 percent - a record for the past 20 years - 82 percent of those surveyed said that the turnaround for unemployment would not last and does not denote a durable change for the better in trends.
Even more striking, 77 percent of the 983 eligible voters polled said Hollande's success in tackling unemployment would not change their negative opinion of his presidency, the poll for "France Info" radio demonstrated.
Among Socialist or leftist sympathisers, 46 percent said their image of Hollande would not improve with better employment results, while 93 percent of Conservative opposition sympathisers said they same.
Hollande is to announce if he will run for a second term in January. (end) jk.tg
