EP voices support to Iraqi operation in Mosul

BRUSSELS, Oct 27 (KUNA) -- The European Parliament passed a resolution on Thursday by 488 votes to 11 in support of the Iraqi operation backed by the international coalition to liberate Mosul from the so-called Islamic State (IS).
It called on Iraqi authorities to make every effort to protect civilians, hospitals and schools, as they progress towards Mosul.
The EP voiced deep concern over "the continual reports on IS/Daesh's use of children, the elderly, women and vulnerable persons as shields" against the ongoing operation.
The resolution noted that Daesh is committing genocide, and called on EU member states to refer this case to the International Criminal Court. (end) nk.msa
