British PM reiterates firm commitment to Gulf security

LONDON, Oct 26 (KUNA) -- British Prime Minister Theresa May has reiterated her country's commitment to the security of Arabian Gulf countries.
"The Prime Minister reiterated our firm commitment to the security of the Gulf, including through our naval base in Bahrain, HMS Juffair," the British Premiership Spokesperson said in a press statement following May talks with the visiting Bahraini King Hamad Bin Issa Al-Khalifa The statement added that the two leaders discussed the importance of the bilateral relation and the deep ties that existed between the two countries stretching back 200 years.
They also touched on regional security issues, including Yemen and the importance of achieving a prolonged ceasefire there, the shared fight against the so-called Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria, and the importance of seeing progress on the Middle East peace process.
The King formally invited the Prime Minister to the Gulf Cooperation Council Leaders' Summit in December as guest of honour, and the Prime Minister said she would be pleased to attend. (end) mrn.ibi
