Clinton lead over Trump near 10 pct, new poll finds, as many voters fear Election Day violence

WASHINGTON, Oct 26 (KUNA) -- Hillary Clinton has a national lead over Donald Trump approaching 10 percentage points, according to a USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll on the US presidential race released on Wednesday.
But the poll also found that while Democratic nominee Clinton may well win the presidency by a large margin, she would take office facing a deeply divided nation that is alarmed about possible Election Day violence and that includes many who will not accept her administration as legitimate.
The poll found that 51 percent of likely voters expressed at least some concern about the possibility of violence on Election Day, with one in five saying they are "very concerned".
Three out of four said they were confident that the United States will have the peaceful transfer of power that has marked American democracy for more than 200 years, but only 40 percent said they were "very confident" of that.
More than four in 10 supporters of Republican presidential nominee Trump said they would not recognize the legitimacy of Clinton as president because they say she would not have won fairly, the poll found.
Clinton leads Trump among likely voters by 47 percent to 38 percent in a four-way race, with support for third-party candidates Gary Johnson at four percent and Jill Stein at two percent, the poll said. (end) rm.hb
