KUWAIT, Oct 26 (KUNA) -- Ten Arab institutions have won Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award in its 16th edition.
Bassam Al-Shemmari, the steering committee deputy chairman, said at a news conference on Wednesday that the institutions, five public and five private, won the award for the best technical project in the Arab world. They represented Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Palestine, Jordan, and Egypt.
Each of Bahrain's government and the private sector won the prize. Omani public sector took two, Palestine two for the private sector, Saudi Arabia one for the public sector, Jordan one for the private sector, the UAE one for the government sector and Egypt a single for the private one. The prizes' valued USD 200,000; USD 20,000 for each winner.
Al-Shemmari indicated the UAE earned the award for the digital transactions' single counter, Oman for the gateway "invest easily," and the Omani municipality for the smart application "baladiyati." Winners in the private sector were Abjad Co. of Jordan for the website Abjad, the UAE Level-Z from Bahrain for queue management and the Egyptian "Estah" Co. for a smart application.
The winners will be honored by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at Bayan Palace in November.
