KFAS, Harvard mull furthering educational, scientific cooperation

KUWAIT, Oct 24 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) is interested in boosting cooperation with the prestigious the US-based Harvard University, a KFAS official has stated.
In a statement following a meeting with Dean of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University Douglas Elmendorf, Director of KFAS International Programs Yusuf Al-Mazeedi said that the meeting focused on efforts to further development scientific cooperation between the two entities.
He pointed out that they also touched upon the Kuwait Program at Harvard Kennedy School which serves the leaders and decision-makers of various institutions in Kuwait, the GCC, and the wider Arab world through unique opportunities for cooperation on advanced research, teaching, training and outreach on critical issues of importance to Kuwait and the region.
The Kuwait Program was launched in 2000 and renewed for five years in 2012.
From 2000 to 2012, this program has provided support for 32 research grants; hosted visiting scholars on campus; conducted 13 customized executive education programs graduating 332 alumni; and granted 83 executive education fellowships, allowing participants from Kuwait to train not only at HKS but also at Harvard Business School, Harvard School of Public Health, and Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Mazeedi pointed out that KFAS is reviewing all its international programs to better serve its new strategy and make the best use of international agreements. (end) zak.ibi
