IRBIL, Oct 23 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait has continued providing humanitarian aid to the displaced Iraqi people in the Kurdistan Region.
Up to 5,400 food baskets were distributed on Sunday to the internally displaced persons in the region, Kuwait's Consul General in Irbil Dr. Omar Al-Kandari told KUNA.
The consulate is keen on delivering humanitarian aid to the displaced in all cities of the region, mainly whose who are in a dire need of assistance, he said.
This aid is part of a new phase which includes about 50,000 food baskets that cover a large number of the displaced, he noted.
He stressed that Kuwait's aid to Iraqis translates the humanitarian initiative by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah aiming to alleviate suffering of the displaced who fled their homes because of terrorist threats, hoping that they would return to their homes as soon as possible.
Kuwait will continue offering its aid to the displaced. It also includes healthy and educational assistance as well as shelters and others, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Shaalan Al-Shammari, head of a civil society organization, expressed his gratitude to the State of Kuwait for helping Iraqis who are in distress.
The aid has a key role in reducing suffering of the displaced, he said, calling for further assistance to cover all of them.
The State of Kuwait has been providing aid to Iraqis in Irbil since last year. It has handed out so far 13,000 food baskets to them. (end) sbr.hm
