Kaine says he, Clinton "not taking anything for granted" in US presidential election

WASHINGTON, Oct 23 (KUNA) -- Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine on Sunday said neither he nor his running mate, Hillary Clinton, believe the Nov. 8 election is a foregone conclusion, despite polls showing Republican Donald Trump facing seemingly insurmountable odds.
"If you look at our schedules for the next 17 days, you will know we are not taking anything for granted," Kaine said in an NBC "Meet the Press" interview. "It has been a season of surprises. We like what we see now.
"We like the early voting activity and the absentee ballot requests coming in in other states, but ... we are going to hammer to do everything we can before the polls close the evening of November 8th," he said.
Asked about hacked emails from the Cinton camp released by WikiLeaks, Kaine said the emails "are connected to a Russian government propaganda effort to destabilize the election, to affect the outcome of the election," and he questioned the veracity of the email contents.
The motive for the email releases "is very, very important for Americans to understand because this is near historic," he said.
One leaked email that referred to Kaine "was flat-out completely incorrect," Kaine said. "So I do not know whether it was doctored or whether the person sending it did not know what they were talking about. But, clearly, I think there is a capacity for much of the information in them to be wrong." (end) rm.bs
