Peshmerga forces launch attack NE Mosul

IRBIL, Oct 23 (KUNA) -- Kurdish paramilitary forces, the Peshmerga, have launched a new military operation on two fronts in northeastern Mosul city, the General Command of Peshmerga forces announced on Sunday.
The forces have also succeeded to repel an attack carried out by the so-called Islamic State (IS) in western Kirkuk, it added.
Peshmerga forces commenced the military operation on two fronts close to Bashiqa in northeast of Mosul, a statement of the command said.
Peshmerga is achieving a successful march towards northern and western Mosul to expel IS from Nineveh Governorate, it added.
A military source in the Iraqi Army announced that the army forces began a military operation in villages affiliated to Bartella region, and are also bombarding Al-Hamadaniya district while encircling Talkeef district.
A source of Peshmerga forces told KUNA that IS militants attacked locations belonging to Peshmerga in western Kirkuk with armors and explosives.(end) sbr.lb
